As usual transfer stories always throw up some bizarre rumours with rife speculation. Goal.com picks out some of the absurd, the silly, and the outrageous.
This week has seen some wild and wacky rumours grace the newswires as the transfer circus spins out of control. Kaka to Chelsea, Suazo To Benfica as well as Saviola to Newcastle. Even Adriano Galliani scoffed at the news.
Kaka To Chelsea
Reports claimed the Selecao star will move to Stamford Bridge next year in a bank busting, club bankrupting, £102m deal. Felipe Scolari has some big plans at the Blues as he tries to bring some silverware to West London. Trophies and success is likely to arrive but one thing that isn’t is the Rossoneri wizard. Kaka is a hero in the San Siro and it seems very unlikely that he will make a switch to the Premier League.
Galliani roared that his megastar was not for sale at any price. Chelsea have the money and the power but the Brazilian loves Milan. It seems as if loyalty comes first rather than Roman Abrahamovic’s money. Will Kaka leave Milan and play Russian roulette with Chelsea?
David Suazo to Benfica
The Honduran hit-man has failed to light up Serie A and he is unlikely to feature much in Jose Mourinho’s plans. Another season of bench warming seems on the cards for Suazo even though reports in Portugal suggest he is ready to move to Benfica. It’s unlikely though, as Roma are also in the race for the Nerazzurri striker. The chance to play in the Champions League appeals to the hit-man and he seems happy at the club despite the fact he may be the spare wheel in Mourinho’s well oiled mchine. Will he swap Serie A for the lesser known, uninspiring Portuguese Liga?
Javier Saviola to Newcastle
This one would win an award for the most ridiculous rumour if there ever was one. There are always nonsense transfer stories around and this is the latest. Fantasy football at it’s best. It’s true that Saviola doesn’t play much at the Bernabeu but to move to Newcastle is a stretch too far. Speculation over the Argentina striker’s has been rife in Spain but he might as well stay with Los Blancos as he is unlikely to get any playing time in Kevin Keegan’s side either. Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins seem the front two.
Saviola just wouldn’t fit in, or would he? Would his speed and trickery work with the Newcastle frontline?
Nikola Zigic to Stoke
The English press have linked Zigic with a move to Premier League newcomers Stoke. They seem to forget that the Serbian striker plays for Spanish giants Valencia and that a move to the English side is unlikely to take off. Zigic seems like a regular feature at the Mestalla. Stoke, as well as the tabloids can dream on.
Marcos Senna to Fenerbahce
One of the best players at Euro 2008 but it doesn’t look like Senna will be following former Spain coach Luis Aragones to Fenerbahce. Spanish colleague Dani Guiza did and signed for the Turkish club in a €15m deal. Senna is a star at Villarreal and he will be playing Champions League football with the Yellow Submarine this term. The future is bright at El Madrigal, Turkey just seems out of the question. It’s also highly unlikely that coach Manuel Pellegrini will allow the midfielder to go and flop at Fenerbahce.
