Roma & Viola Join Podolski Race

According to the Corriere dello Sport, both Roma and Fiorentina have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich’s want-away forward Lukas Podolski.Podolski’s future at the Allianz Arena has been called into serious question recently, as the player is not at all happy with his lack of first team football. The forward joined Bayern from Cologne in 2006, however things have not really worked out for him in Bavaria, and he spent most of last season in the shadows of Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose. The status quo has remained the same into the new campaign, and last week Podolski sensationally claimed that he wished he had never joined Bayern. "I wouldn't have [signed] had I known that things were going to turn out like this," he roared. "I would be a bad footballer if I contented myself with sitting on the bench. This is too much! I'm not making any progress here.” Real Madrid have since been linked with a January bid for the player but now, according to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma and Fiorentina are also ready to make a move. The Giallorossi were heavily linked with the 23-year-old during the summer, and may fancy their chances after the player’s agent Kon Schramm admitted in July that both he and Podolski “especially liked Italy and Rome, as places.” Podolski is currently focusing on the Germany national team as they are in the middle of a 2010 World Cup qualifying double-header. At the weekend the forward scored twice in a 6-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein.
