Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has suggested that Robinho's financially motivated decision to sign for Manchester City was probably not of his own making.
In one of the most dramatic deadline day dealings of recent times, Robinho was transferred from Real Madrid to Manchester City, instead of Chelsea - who had been publicly courting the Brazilian forward all summer.
Scolari had said he was stunned by the decision, and now says that it is indicative of the different forces - many of which are not benevolent - that are pulling at a player in this era of reckless spending.
"It's a situation that the coach or the club cannot control," Scolari was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
"People around the athletes, sometimes for their own benefit, end up indicating a path that maybe is not the best for them."
Scolari went on to tell Globo that he has been very impressed by the English Premier League and believes that it has now become the greatest league in the world.
"It is the best championship in the world right now, in all aspects. All clubs are very well organised," enthused the World Cup winner.
