Serie A Weekend Preview: Matchday 3

Milan - Lazio The match of the weekend takes place at San Siro, and Milan know they simply have to get a win or else coach Carlo Ancelotti could be out of a job. The Rossoneri have had a disastrous start to the season, losing both of their games against Bologna at Genoa, although they won in the UEFA Cup over FC Zurich in midweek. Lazio are top of the league after a blistering start to the campaign, thrashing Cagliari 4-1 before beating Sampdoria 2-0 last week. The Biancocelesti have made a string of impressive summer signings, none more so than Argentine striker Mauro Zarate, who has already bagged three goals. Torino - Inter Torino were a huge disappointment last year, but their hope was renewed this term following an impressive 3-0 win over Lecce in week one. Last week the Granata drew 1-1 at Reggina, but this weekend’s clash against Inter should show what they are really made of. Inter have just started to click under Jose Mourinho following a slightly slow start, and have won their last two games. Last Saturday the Nerazzurri overcame Catania 2-1 at San Siro, while on Tuesday they came away from their Champions League trip to Athens with an impressive 2-0 win over Panathinaikos. Roma - Reggina Roma have had a miserable start to the season and have failed to win any of their first four competitive games. With just one point on the board in Serie A, the Giallorossi were humiliatingly beaten by Romanian minnows Cluj in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Reggina have repeatedly beaten the drop in recent seasons, and it looks like it will be another stressful year this time around. The Calabrians lost 2-1 on the opening day of the season against newly-promoted Chievo, while they drew 1-1 at home against Torino last time out. Fiorentina - Bologna Fiorentina will be hoping for a win in this one having picked up just one point in their first two Serie A games. The Viola drew 1-1 with Juventus before losing 2-1 at Napoli, but they will have drawn confidence from their 2-2 draw at Lyon in the Champions League in midweek. Bologna produced the shock of the opening weekend by winning 2-1 at Milan, but they could not follow this up last week, losing 1-0 at home to Atalanta. The newly promoted Emilia-Romagna based outfit know that their only objective this season will be to avoid relegation. Cagliari - Juventus Cagliari are many people’s favourites for the drop after they failed to make any notable signings in the summer. And this tag has been upheld so far, as the Sardinians have lost both of their games this season, being thumped 4-1 by Lazio, before losing 2-0 at Siena last week. Juventus have started the campaign well, and are unbeaten in their five competitive games. The Bianconeri have won both of their matches in the last week, defeating Udinese and Zenit St Petersburg by the same 1-0 scoreline.
