By the time this game found any spark, it was effectively already over. 0-0 was an appropriate result for what was a frustrating match for all concerned...
After a simply atrocious first half, the second period of this game offered a bit of excitement but no goals as both sides were punished for a lack of clinical play.
Home coach Luis Aragonés will be particularly disappointed with his outfit, not least at the very back and very front, while Dynamo lacked the ideas to truly take the sword to Fernerbahçe when they were at their weakest.
First Half
The opening stages were characterised by a lack of end product and an overall dearth of chances.
The ball spent most of its time being pummelled around midfield with little to show for it for either side, but 12 minutes in Dynamo did contrive to create, and then lose, a fine chance when Eremenko hesitated in the box with Bangoura ready and waiting.
Dynamo were having the best of it, with Lugano and Edu strugglign to deal with their long ball game, but actual chances were hard to come by. Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, hadn't even turned up yet.
One of the few moments of excitement came just after the half hour mark. Sprinting off his line to meet Aliev's long ball to Bangoura, Volkan Demirel made a hash of a clearance outside his box. Calmly waiting for the ball to descend, he then took another swipe at it: this one was even worse than the last and eventually the forward was allowed to lob the goalie, only for his shot to fly wide. As the ball went over, the 'keeper appeared to bring Bangoura down, but no foul was given.
El Kaddouri sensed blood and tried a long ball of his own, and this time Bangoura was unlucky not to make more of his chance as Volkan redeemed himself by diving in bravely to save a one-on-one. Bangoura, meanwhile, pulled out at the last second.
The half was starting to warm up, although it was as much down to defensive error-mongering as it was silky play. At the other end, Alex's through ball to Dani Güiza was poorly dealt with by Diakhate, but the Spanish striker couldn't quite reach the ball to capitalise.
In truth there was little invention from either side, the home fans furious with their club's showing as the first period drew to a close. Dynamo had had more chances, but a draw seemed to be about fair.
Second Half
The second half was much more to the home support's liking, at least in terms of getting the ball forward.
Within three minutes of the restart Fenerbahçe had spurned two fine chances. First Alex failed to take advantage of a Roberto Carlos throw and Güiza pass when face to face with goal, and then Güiza was given the ball in line with goal inside the box. Turning his marker, he shot goalwards; Bogush parried it, but only as far as Emre, who was denied by some heroic goalkpeeing to keep the score level.
Frustration was rife both on the bench and off, with Kazim Kazim picking up a booking for a foul on El-Kaddouri while his coach, Luis Aragonés, seethed on the touchline.
Dynamo were far from innocent themselves as they tried to stop Fenerbahçe's spell of good play with some overtly physical midfield action. However they very nearly went behind on the hour mark as Bogush flapped badly at a Kazim cross, and though Emre pounced on the rebound Bogush was relieved when the shot flew wide.
Emre was again denied after getting on the end of a deflection from a Roberto Carlos thunderbolt, and while there was no finishing from the hosts they were certainly looking brighter.
Dynamo, though, began to pack men back, and they enjoyed some defensive success in this way. Going forward they still resorted to the long ball - complete with a couple of dodgy offside calls - but Volkan was mainly left untroubled.
