Frank Rijkaard might have been blamed for much of Barcelona's troubles last year but today ex-player Ronaldinho stood up for the Dutchman, saying he is a great coach....Together Frank Rijkaard and Ronaldinho were blamed for a fair amount of Barcelona's problems last season and having both left the club they definitely seem to have found praise a lot easier to come by.
Indeed, today, the now AC Milan playermaker spoke about his former coach and said that not only is he a good friend but he was a great coach.
"Frank is a friend of mine, after all the things we have experienced together to find people who have shared so much is fantastic," he began, "He has always been a great coach that has been very clear in his work and has won everything because he knows how to work."
Rijkaard is currently jobless following his departure from Barcelona in the summer and although some people have said the only reason he won in Spain was because of the talent at his disposal the Brazilian disagrees.
"Talent alone is not enough, it was not about him when we won or lost," he said, "When we won the league and the Champions League nobody complained, Rijkaard did a lot, he is great."
Indeed, despite winning so much at Barcelona both Rijkaard and Ronaldinho were eventually released after a poor final season which saw the Catalan club finish third in the league. Talking about the dissappointment the Milan player says he does not know what happened to them.
"I do not know," he started, "Things are what they are, we practically won it all and then when titles do not come things happen. I remember all the happiness of Barcelona, the leagues, the Champions League, I have all those good memories."
"You can always see the negative or positive side of things and I prefer the latter. I have many friends in Barcelona and I do not like farewells, I will return....." he concluded.
