Barça Not Interested In Arshavin

Barcelona will not be making a move to sign Andrei Arshavin in the winter transfer window because they believe that they do not need him after their good start to the season. Andrei Arshavin, the Zenit St. Petersburg forward, has been photographed with a Blaugrana shirt and made it clear in the summer that his first choice would be a move to Camp Nou, but his hopes of joining the club supported as a boy have now been dashed. Barça-biased sports daily El Mundo Deportivo is often tipped-off about stories from within the Catalan club - and Barca's lack of interest in Arshavin has been revealed by the paper. In the summer, Barça were keen on acquiring the Russian international after he impressed at Euro 2008, and they have been linked again with him in recent weeks. Arshavin has stated that he will be leaving Zenit in two months' time and the Russian club have also admitted that their star will be allowed to go if the price is right. Six months ago a fee of €25 million was demanded, and that figure saw a host of clubs, including Barça and Tottenham Hotspur, end their interest in his services. The latest announcement from Arshavin has seen Real Madrid's name linked with him, but Bernd Schuster has dismissed those reports and now Barcelona appear not to require his services either. Andrés Iniesta is set to return to action after the festive break, while Thierry Henry and Pedro can also play down the Blaugrana's left side. That news will open the way for English clubs to start talks with Zenit, but it remains to be seen if Tottenham will rekindle their interest or whether Arsenal may make a move, as some reports have suggested.
