Ajax Confirm Real Madrid about Huntelaar

The Dutch have taken the unusual step of announcing that negotiations have taken place with the Spanish giants about their star striker over a transfer to the Bernabéu next month.Ajax have confirmed that they have held talks with Real Madrid about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in a move that appears to pave the way for his transfer to go through next month. The Dutch club took the unusual step of announcing the fact that there were negotiations on their official website after intense speculation in both the Spanish and Dutch media. Huntelaar is seen by Madrid as the main striker that they require to help ease the pressure after Ruud van Nistelrooy was ruled out for the rest for he season and now his club have confirmed that. "Ajax has held talks with Real Madrid about the possible transfer in January of Huntelaar to the Spanish club," a statement read. Bernd Schuster had asked for a striker in the summer transfer window, but Madrid's fascination with Cristiano Ronaldo meant that he was ignored, but now the club have been forced to act. The German coach has been given more time to turn things around because the Bernabéu board recognise that he has had to work with an unbalanced squad and will put that right in January. Huntelaar has been the subject of interest from several major European clubs for the past few seasons and it would appear that Madrid will have to pay more now than they would in the summer. Ajax have resisted the temptation to cash in on the free-scoring striker, but Marco van Basten feels that he can operate without his services and will use the cash to bolster his title-chasing team.
