Defoe Excited By Tottenham Move

Jermain Defoe has revealed the reasons behind his dramatic move from Portsmouth back to Tottenham Hotspur.Jermain Defoe today completed his much discussed move to his former club Tottenham Hotspur, linking up with the man who had originally taken him from White Hart Lane to Portsmouth in the summer, Harry Redknapp. Redknapp himself moved from Portsmouth to Spurs some weeks ago, and it is rumoured that he will be looking to poach maybe one or two more players from his old club, with the name of Peter Crouch being suggested. Defoe, though, was delighted to have made a return to the club he claims that he never wanted to leave, and is now looking forward to getting on with scoring some goals for the club. The emotional pull exerted by both Harry Redknapp and the Spurs fans, and the fact that his family still live in North London, both played a part in his decision to return. "The manager, and the fans, had a major bearing on me coming back, and my family still live here. I didn't really want to leave to be honest, but as a professional you have to move on. We have a lot going for us here, and I'm looking forward to scoring some goals," the player explained during the half-time interval in tonight's Carling Cup semi-final against Burnley. The striker was clearly emotional, and was relishing his new challenge with tangible excitement He added: "It's great to be back, and I'm looking forward to the challenge. It's hard to put in words what I'm feeling. I've been looking forward to it all day."
