Injuries Could Cost Us Trophies

The Scot's squad has been disrupted by a plethora of injuries in recent weeks, and he has now intimated that future successes will be dependent on a fit and healthy eleven... Manchester United are still on course to complete an incredible and unprecedented quadruple, as they continue to battle on four fronts. The reigning world champions negotiated their way into the League Cup final, despite a 1-0 loss in the first leg of the semi-final when pitted against Championship club Derby County. Success in the FA Cup is also a possibility as Sir Alex Ferguson's men beat Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round to secure progression into the pot for the fifth where they will now face, ironically, Derby again. The club are also on course for the retention of their Premier League crown as they are two points clear of second-placed Liverpool but have a game in hand, while Internazionale pose a potentially tricky European date in the Champions League. Sir Alex though believes that if the Red Devils are to witness unparalleled success this season, then the club can ill afford any more injuries. "You would need the luck and you would need to keep all your players fit," he explained to Sirius radio. "If we keep everyone fit then yes, we'd have a chance [of collecting all trophies]. "When you're in a competition, you've got to try to win it and, as long as you're still in that competition, you've got a chance. "What we have done well recently is that we've had a lot of injuries but the squad has compensated and whatever team I have picked the players have just got on with it. "But realistically I don't see it," Ferguson conceded. Since the start of 2009, Sir Alex has been forced to field an astonishing eight different defensive rearguards.
