Transfer Still A Toss-Up
From information received yesterday it appeared that Andrei Arshavin, 27, had signed for Arsenal, and that the move was just awaiting official ratification from the Premier League.
Gunners fans began to rejoice outside the club's Emirates home, and some even hotfooted, in the snow, straight to the club shop so that they could have the player's name emblazoned on the back of their shirt, together with Arshavin's preferred Arsenal shirt no. 23.
However, the former Zenit ace may be frozen out of his dream move to the Premier League, as latest reports from Russia indicate that the transfer is far from a certainty, and that the deal still only has a 50/50 likelihood of going though.
The FA's director of communications, Adrian Bevington, reportedly told Russian media that a decision to allow Arshavin his move to Arsenal could take as long as three days, before mentioning that the chances of the transfer becoming official were only "50/50."
Should Bevington be correct in his assessment, then Arshavin will have to return to Zenit St Petersburg.
However, the credibility of the source is questionable. No news of this is yet to filter to the British press. It is a dubious claim by the Russian media as it is unclear why Bevington would decide to inform the Russian press of this news first.
