Shearer Is New Toon Boss

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has been linked numerous times with a return to St. James' Park, but tonight it has been officially announced by numerous UK sources. The news broke earlier tonight that the Magpies, who are without a full-time manager since Joe Kinnear took a leave of absence to undergo heart surgery, have taken a gamble on the former striker. Caretaker boss Chris Hughton will thus step aside to allow Shearer to take the hotseat until the end of the current Premier League campaign. Shearer, 38, has long been viewed as the choice of some of the more vocal St. James' fans to lead the Geordie outfit. Having scored in excess of 200 goals for his hometown club in a ten year period, he is regarded as a hero on Tyneside. However, he has no management experience either in the top flight or below. Newcastle United, owned by controversial sportswear magnate Mike Ashley, have yet to comment.
