According to sources in Florence, Manchester City are now set to bid for yet another Serie A star in the form of Fiorentina’s Adrian Mutu.Arab billionaire Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim and his Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG) have taken control of Manchester City, and have already poured millions into the club to steal Real Madrid star Robinho from under Chelsea’s noses.
Dr Sulaiman is now planning some other huge purchases as he tries to make City the best club in the world, and he has been heavily linked with a world record offer next summer for Kaka.
This morning it was reported that Man City were ready to splash out €30m on Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.
Florentine sources are now claiming that the Eastlands club are also eying up Fiorentina star man Mutu.
Mutu was linked with an exit from the Viola for much of this summer, and it had seemed certain at one point that he would join Roma, who made a €20m offer.
Fiorentian eventually rejected the bid, but there have been repeated reports that Mutu has been promised that he can leave at the end of the current season.
Yesterday, the Viola issued a statement denying that Mutu may leave at the end of the campaign, possibly for Roma, but sources suggest that his long-term future is far from secure.
Dr Sulaiman certainly has the funds to entice Fiorentina into a sale, and he may even table an offer during the January transfer window.
