Arshavin Would Prefer To Go To Spain

Andrei Arshavin may be prepared to move to Arsenal this month, but he would prefer to move to la Primera after previous interest from both Barça and Real Madrid, according to his former Zenit team-mate. Martin Skrtel has revealed that while he believes Andrei Arshavin would be a success in English football, the striker's ambition is to move to Spain. The Liverpool defender left Zenit St. Petersburg last year in an easy move, but his former team-mate is having more trouble finding a way out of the Russian club. Tottenham Hotspur were one of the first teams to show an interest, but then Barcelona and Real Madrid were interested and Arshavin's attention turned to them. Zenit had been holding out for a huge fee for the Russian international, but may now let him leave to join Arsenal, although Skrtel thinks that would not be the player's first choice. “[Arsenal] will suit him and I am looking forward to seeing him here in England, although I heard he is more eager to go to Spain," he told Sport Express. "They like playing football. You cannot call them a pure English team – there are a lot of technical players from the continent." While many believe Arshavin is a good player, a lot of pundits have been surprised by the fee that Zenit believe he is worth and consider that at 27 he may be a risk, although Skrtel does not agree. “Andrei has spent many years in Zenit and I want him to join a big European club and show what he is worth,” he continued. “He played wonderfully at Euro 2008 and I am sure he can continue playing on the same level as in the summer.”
