Not For Sale

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has today confirmed that he has no current intention of selling his share in the club, as rumours of off-field strife continue to dog the Merseyside outfit. Tabloid reports in England had today indicated that the American, who has a well-documented 'difficult' relationship with co-owner Tom Hicks, was readying himself to auction off his 50% share of the club. These rumours seem to have been sparked by the news that Gillett's financial advisor was seeking a buyer for ice hockey team the Montreal Canadiens, currently owned by the American. Whilst it is true he is looking to sell the ice hockey outfit, he has no intention of selling his part of the Premier League club. "We have appointed advisors in different countries to assess our assets," the entrepreneur told The Liverpool Echo. "We have engaged professionals who are doing some asset planning, it has nothing to do with any decisions to sell any assets. We may do some recapitalisation, but any links between what we are doing and the situation at Liverpool is incorrect. "We have made no decision to sell." Last year both Hicks and Gillett appointed major financial institutions as advisors in a bid to find buyers for the club. Despite reported interest from investment groups in the Middle-East, no deal ever materialised, apparently due to the asking price of £500 million being deemed to be too high.
