Real In For Ribery

Real Madrid are set to test Bayern Munich's resolve and table a big-money bid for their French international midfielder Franck Ribery in the summer, according to reports. Italian media source Itasportpress has claimed that once the presidential elections at the Bernabeu have taken place in June, Los Blancos will offer €38 million for the former Marseille star to signal the beginning of a new Galacticos era in Madrid. Bayern spent a club-record €25m to land Ribery in the summer of 2007, and his glittering displays both in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League have sparked a bidding war among Europe’s elite sides. Barcelona, and Pep Guardiola in particular, are long-term admirers of the 26-year old's abilities, and Manchester United are also known to have expressed an interest. However, in a response to such speculation, Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness slapped a €50m price tag on the player in an attempt to stave off the circling suitors. Indeed, Hoeness still remains confident that Ribery will sign a new deal to remain at the Allianz Arena for the foreseeable future. The German legend is reported as saying, “[Franck] Ribery’s deal continues for another two more years, but there will be discussions to extend his contract by improving his current terms.” Ribery has scored four times in eight Champions League matches this season, and is thought to be keen on a move to further his career.
